Fife Council reported subsidence affecting Dewar Avenue homes and the Community Centre to the Mining Remediation Authority (MRA) on 23 April. The affected areas were fenced off and the Centre closed.
Investigations linked the subsidence to historic coal mining. The MRA accepted responsibility for the damage; monitoring and surveys continued, and the Centre remained closed.
Drilling and grouting began behind the Community Centre as part of efforts to stabilise the ground.
The MRA reported initial drilling and grouting around the Centre was completed and said further repairs were expected to finish by February 2026. Monitoring equipment was installed within the Centre.
After ongoing monitoring found slow movement in the fenced-off area, the MRA carried out a four-month grout-and-gravel ground-stabilisation programme. It reported the ground works complete in August. Monitoring is to continue until at least spring 2027.
Members of Kincardine Community Council were allowed inside the Centre accompanied by Fife Council. The scope of the damage was witnessed with extensive damp and mould prevalent, adding to the structural issues.
