The Dawn Of a New Era

There can be few in Kincardine who are unaware of the situation with our Community Centre since it, along with six homes in Dewar Avenue, was affected by historic mining-related subsidence in April 2025

For those whose homes were impacted, this has been a particularly difficult time. For the wider village, the closure of the Community Centre has meant the loss of a place to meet, take part in activities, hold events and bring people together. More than eighteen months on, the Centre remains closed while the need for a community facility remains.

The Centre was previously run by Kincardine Community Association, whose volunteers gave their time and effort to supporting village life. Following the prolonged closure, the association stood down in September 2026 and we recognise the contribution made by those involved over the years.

Work has taken place to address the ground conditions affecting the building, including extensive grouting, with monitoring continuing. However, that work does not, on its own, resolve every question about the building’s condition or its future. There is still work to do before the community has a clear and deliverable route forward.

Who we are

Our Kincardine is a small group of local people working towards a shared goal: restoring a welcoming, accessible and sustainable community facility for Kincardine and the surrounding area.

We believe the village needs somewhere that brings generations together, supports local groups and provides space for activities, services and events. We also believe residents should have a meaningful voice in shaping what that looks like.

We are working towards establishing a new charitable organisation to take this work forward. A draft constitution for a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, or SCIO, has been submitted to Fife Voluntary Action for review before being finalised and put forward to the OSCR for registration.

Where things stand

We are exploring the practical options for providing the facilities our community needs. These include repairing and improving the existing centre, demolishing it and constructing a modern replacement on the current site, or developing a new centre elsewhere.

Each option raises questions about cost, timescale, suitability and long-term running costs. Our task is to understand those choices properly and work towards a solution that can be funded, delivered and sustained.

A meeting with Fife Council is being arranged for November to discuss a possible way forward. We have also begun early conversations about potential funding, including through the Pride in Place programme. These are initial discussions; no funding award or final agreement is in place.

What we want to achieve

Our immediate priority is to establish a clear way forward for a Community Centre for Kincardine. Alongside that, we want to understand what residents and local organisations need from it, both now and in the years ahead.

That means considering space for clubs and classes, community events, social activities and services, while making sure any future facility is accessible, affordable to use and realistic to operate. We also want to explore how it could serve neighbouring communities across West Fife.

A building is only part of the answer. Its success will depend on the people, groups and activities that give it life.

Keeping the community involved

This website will provide a central place to share progress, explain proposals and let residents know about opportunities to contribute. As the project develops, we will seek views from the community by way of online surveys to help shape our plans.

There is still much to work through, and we cannot promise an immediate solution (or, indeed, any solution right now). What we can do is keep the project moving, communicate openly and make the strongest possible case for the facilities Kincardine needs.

If you have ideas we would welcome hearing from you through our contact page. Whether you represent a local group, previously used the centre or simply care about the village’s future, your contribution can help shape what comes next.
